Barely days after a fierce leadership contest within the Kerala Congress, Chief Minister designate V.D. Satheesan and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal publicly displayed unity. The meeting between the two leaders, held at Venugopal’s residence, held significant political importance. This face-to-face interaction followed the dramatic climax of the Congress leadership race.
Despite recent intense undercurrents, both leaders aimed to show that the power struggle was a thing of the past. Venugopal emphasized that the party was now fully focused on governance, expressing anticipation for Satheesan’s administration. Satheesan, on the other hand, dismissed speculation about internal divisions and tensions over Cabinet formation, assuring that decisions were made through thorough discussions.
The Chief Minister-designate clarified that the final list of ministers would only be approved after clearance from the Congress high command. He assured that the process of Cabinet formation was nearing completion, hinting at a swift swearing-in. Satheesan also defended Venugopal’s impartial role in the process, urging the media not to be concerned about the Cabinet composition.
With both senior leaders publicly coming together, the Congress leadership aims to shift the focus from internal power dynamics to the governance challenge after their return to power in Kerala.
