Congress leaders, led by Member of Parliament K.C. Venugopal, have urged the Centre to reschedule the Joint Entrance Examination Main. The leaders cited concerns over the exam dates coinciding with Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter, which are significant days for the Christian community. They emphasized that holding exams during this period would add undue stress on Christian students who observe religious rituals.
Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan echoed these concerns, emphasizing the importance of Maundy Thursday and Easter for Christians. He criticized the National Testing Agency’s decision and called for the exams to be postponed to respect the religious sentiments of the minority community. Satheesan highlighted the potential infringement on religious freedom and urged an immediate review of the exam schedule.
Congress Working Committee member Ramesh Chennithala also supported the call for rescheduling the exams. He pointed out that the current dates could hinder Christian students from participating in essential religious observances, causing them stress and hardship. Chennithala urged the Centre to reconsider the schedule to alleviate the dilemma faced by students torn between their faith and academic obligations.
