The Congress party has received applications from nearly 70 aspirants seeking party tickets for the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). State Congress chief Vincent Pala mentioned that the party is fully prepared for the GHADC polls, having received a strong response from prospective candidates in the Garo Hills region.
Vincent H. Pala, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, stated that the party initiated the application process a month ago, resulting in around 70 candidates vying for Congress tickets. The final selection process is currently ongoing within the party, with screening and consultations in progress.
Pala emphasized that the official announcement of the final list of candidates will occur after the election schedule is officially notified. The Congress party aims to address grassroots issues such as development, protection of indigenous rights, and governance transparency in the upcoming GHADC elections.
The GHADC, a significant autonomous district council in Meghalaya, holds importance in tribal area administration, focusing on land, forests, customary laws, and local governance matters. These elections are crucial as they often indicate the public sentiment in the Garo Hills region before larger state-level contests.
