Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge extended congratulations to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its chairperson, Tarique Rahman, for their significant win in the Bangladesh parliamentary elections. Kharge, through a social media post, conveyed best wishes on behalf of the Indian National Congress, highlighting the strong historical, cultural, and linguistic ties between India and Bangladesh.
The BNP, in alliance, emerged victorious in the 13th parliamentary elections, securing a total of 210 seats, surpassing the majority mark. This win sets the stage for the formation of a new government in Bangladesh. According to reports, Tarique Rahman is expected to assume the role of Prime Minister, marking the return of a male PM after nearly 35 years.
Tarique Rahman, son of former President Ziaur Rahman and the late Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, expressed optimism about the election outcome, stating his confidence in victory. Following his mother’s passing, Tarique took over the leadership of the BNP. With this win, he is now poised to lead the nation as the BNP gears up to establish its new government.
