The Congress party, maintaining its confrontational stance in the Lok Sabha, highlighted historical instances where the Leader of the House was obstructed from delivering the Motion of Thanks speech. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh shared a video from 2004 showing then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh being stopped from responding to the Motion of Thanks.
Ramesh emphasized the similarity between the past incident and the current situation in the Lok Sabha. He pointed out that in 2004, the BJP prevented the Prime Minister from addressing the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address. This comes as the Lok Sabha recently passed the Motion of Thanks without Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s formal reply due to disruptions by Opposition MPs.
The ongoing disruptions in Parliament led to the postponement of Prime Minister Modi’s address, with the Lok Sabha adjourning amid uproar from the Opposition. The clashes between the Opposition and the Treasury Benches escalated over the denial of the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s speech, referencing an article based on unpublished memoirs of former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane.
