The Kochi City Police confirmed that a court order prevents the arrest of Monalisa Bhosle, a central figure in the marriage controversy. The Madhya Pradesh Police are investigating the case in Kerala. The Kochi Commissioner office has informed the Madhya Pradesh Police about the court order, emphasizing no arrest should be made.
A team from the Madhya Pradesh Police is in Kochi conducting searches at various locations but has not located Monalisa yet. Their immediate goal is to record her statement rather than take her into custody. Despite this, the possibility of custody remains due to a kidnapping case against her husband in Madhya Pradesh.
The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes revealed that Monalisa was only 16 years and two months old at the time of the marriage. A forged birth certificate was allegedly used for the marriage, with hospital records in Madhya Pradesh indicating her birthdate as December 30, 2009. Consequently, a case under the POCSO Act has been filed against her husband.
The Commission has summoned the Directors General of Police of Kerala and Madhya Pradesh to Delhi regarding the matter, highlighting its seriousness. The case, involving legal, jurisdictional, and child protection issues, raises concerns about enforcing laws and safeguarding minors across state boundaries.
