Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary M.A. Baby refuted speculations of a potential collaboration between the DMK and the AIADMK to form the next government in Tamil Nadu. Baby emphasized that the recent mandate from the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections favored the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the largest party in the 234-member Assembly. He highlighted that the election results indicated a clear rejection of both the ruling DMK and the Opposition AIADMK, underscoring the need for the Governor to invite the largest party to establish the government.
Accusing Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar of deviating from democratic norms by delaying the invitation to TVK, Baby cited historical instances where parties with insufficient majorities were invited to form governments and prove their strength in the House. He pointed out that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had been invited in the past without having the required numbers initially, emphasizing the clarity of constitutional conventions on such matters.
Furthermore, Baby alleged external interference by the Union government in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape to sway the election outcome towards a BJP-supported government through covert maneuvers. He warned of reports suggesting manipulative efforts to alter the post-election scenario in favor of a BJP-backed administration, despite the electoral results. Amid ongoing political discussions and negotiations in Tamil Nadu, various parties are deliberating on extending their support to TVK.
