Eggs were thrown at CPIM leader Minakshi Mukherjee’s car in Sitalkuchi of Cooch Behar district in North Bengal. She was visiting the family of a deceased party worker when the incident occurred. The CPIM member alleged that BJP workers were behind the attack and criticized the police for their alleged inaction.
The CPIM claimed that the deceased party worker’s family suspected foul play in his death and faced initial reluctance from the police in accepting their complaint. Additionally, the Left expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of bringing back the body of a migrant worker who died in Mumbai. Meenakshi mentioned plans to protest at the District Magistrate’s office in response to these incidents.
Following the egg-throwing incident, Meenakshi broadcasted a live video on social media showing the attack on her car. She demanded arrests in connection with the incident and staged a sit-in protest at the Cooch Behar Superintendent of Police’s office. Despite submitting a written complaint, she claimed that the accused were not being apprehended, questioning the rule of law and safety in public spaces.
The BJP’s Cooch Behar district president denied the party’s involvement in the attack, attributing it to public frustration. He criticized the CPIM for allegedly blaming the BJP for everything and emphasized that BJP workers were not responsible for the egg-throwing incident.
