Cricket Australia has made changes to its women’s international schedule for the upcoming summer season. This adjustment was necessary after the ICC decided to move the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy from June to February, causing a scheduling conflict. As a result of the reshuffle, New Zealand will now split its Australian tour into two separate visits, and Australia’s women’s home season has been reduced from 12 matches to nine.
The revised program includes a significant role for Australian women leading up to the men’s 150th Anniversary Test at the MCG. Two ODIs against New Zealand are scheduled in Melbourne during this historic week. Additionally, New Zealand will play a three-match T20I series in Australia in October, followed by a three-match ODI campaign in March.
The changes in scheduling were prompted by the ICC’s decision to move the Women’s Champions Trophy to February, creating a crowded window. This adjustment led Cricket Australia to reconsider its plans, which initially included bilateral series against Bangladesh and New Zealand in a single home summer. Junction Oval is also set to host England’s preparations for the anniversary Test, with a pink-ball warm-up fixture for England’s Test squad being considered.
Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager of Scheduling and Operations, expressed gratitude to Bangladesh and New Zealand for their cooperation and understanding in the revised arrangements. He highlighted the importance of women’s cricket in the lead-up to the 150th Anniversary Test, particularly noting the historic first international match under lights at Junction Oval.
