Cricket Canada responded to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) immediate suspension by expressing surprise but assuring full compliance with international directives. The ICC suspended Cricket Canada’s membership due to serious breaches of obligations, although Canadian national teams can still participate in ICC events. Cricket Canada acknowledged the suspension’s unexpected nature and emphasized its dedication to meeting compliance requirements by restructuring internal governance and financial administration.
The organization detailed its swift actions to address concerns raised by the ICC, including implementing corrective measures to rectify governance, financial oversight, and administrative deficiencies. Cricket Canada submitted a comprehensive Corrective & Preventative Action Plan to the ICC, focusing on root cause analysis, short-term corrective actions, long-term stability measures, and a timeline for full remediation aligned with ICC expectations. An independent jurist-led committee, chaired by Dasha Peregoudova, has been established to drive investigative and decision-making reforms within the organization.
Cricket Canada highlighted ongoing governance and financial reforms, such as reactivating the Finance & Audit Committee, revising budgets, expediting audits, providing governance training, and addressing past financial control policy non-adherence. The organization clarified that the issues leading to the suspension were inherited from previous boards and management, emphasizing the current leadership’s commitment to rectifying these issues through comprehensive governance, financial control, and administrative reforms.
