Customs officers at the Foreign Post Office (FPO) in Ahmedabad intercepted a parcel from Thailand falsely declared as “wooden blocks” and found 467.5 grams of suspected ganja hidden inside. The discovery was made during routine checks at the FPO. The officers uncovered two polythene packets containing the suspected cannabis upon inspecting the carton from Thailand.
The suspected contraband, along with the polythene packaging, weighed 467.5 grams and was confiscated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Authorities are conducting further investigations under the Act to determine the parcel’s intended recipient and any potential connections to a larger trafficking network. This seizure is part of a series of similar incidents in Gujarat involving cannabis allegedly smuggled from Thailand.
In a recent case at Ahmedabad airport, officials arrested a passenger arriving from Bangkok and seized 10.911 kg of suspected hydroponic marijuana concealed in checked baggage. The contraband’s worth was estimated at Rs 11 crore, and the case is under investigation as per the NDPS Act. Earlier instances in May and January also saw Customs intercepting passengers arriving from Bangkok with significant quantities of suspected marijuana, emphasizing the ongoing efforts of international drug traffickers to use Gujarat as an entry point for cannabis smuggling.
