The death toll from the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela has now reached 4,118, with 16,740 people reported injured. Rescue efforts have led to the retrieval of 6,462 individuals from the affected regions. Additionally, 86,794 families have received aid, and 17,266 individuals are currently housed in 89 temporary camps nationwide.
Response operations are ongoing, involving a total of 30,076 personnel, 29,843 volunteers, and 3,454 international rescuers deployed across Venezuela. The country has experienced 1,171 aftershocks since the initial twin earthquakes.
Venezuela’s acting President, Delcy Rodriguez, expressed gratitude for the international humanitarian assistance received from 28 countries. She emphasized the importance of the aid in supporting the victims of the recent earthquakes, with over 2,000 tonnes of aid being sorted for distribution to those in temporary camps. Rodriguez highlighted the solidarity shown by the global community towards Venezuela during this challenging time.
Authorities have reported that 17,907 people were left homeless due to their homes being damaged or destroyed by the earthquakes. In response, numerous temporary camps have been established to provide support to the displaced and affected individuals. The nation observed seven days of national mourning as a tribute to the earthquake victims.
