Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, in a throwback interview with Lehren TV, recalled her debut film “Om Shanti Om” and praised filmmaker Farah Khan for spotting her old Hindi cinema charm. Padukone mentioned that Khan sensed her resemblance to classic actresses, which made her character portrayal easier. She shared that she drew inspiration from legendary stars like Hema Malini and Madhubala to enhance her grace and on-screen presence. Padukone clarified that her retro look in the movie was not a direct imitation of any particular actress but rather an ode to the 70s era.
“Om Shanti Om” marked Deepika Padukone’s entry into Bollywood, directed by Farah Khan and produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment. Released on November 9, 2007, the film also featured Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role, alongside Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade, and Kirron Kher. The movie was a massive success at the box office in 2007, with its music by Vishal-Shekhar contributing significantly to its popularity. Songs like ‘Main Agar Kahoon’ and ‘Aankhon Mein Teri’ from the film remain chart-toppers even today.
