Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed plans for significant road and connectivity projects in collaboration with the Centre to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance transportation networks. These projects, part of the double-engine government initiative, include the construction of expressways, tunnels, elevated corridors, and connectivity links across Delhi-NCR. Emphasizing the focus on future traffic needs, Gupta discussed these initiatives with Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
The AIIMS-Mahipalpur-Gurugram Elevated Corridor, a 20-km six-lane project costing Rs 5,000 crore, is set to enhance traffic flow between Delhi and Gurugram. This corridor will offer seamless connectivity between AIIMS, INA, Hauz Khas, Vasant Kunj, Mahipalpur, and Gurugram while alleviating congestion on key routes like Dhaula Kuan and Mehrauli-Gurugram Road.
Another notable project highlighted by the Chief Minister is the Shiv Murti-Nelson Mandela Marg Tunnel Project, an 8-km long and six-lane wide underground tunnel estimated at Rs 7,000 crore. This tunnel will link Dwarka Expressway to Vasant Kunj, providing congestion relief in areas like Mahipalpur, Rangpuri, and Dhaula Kuan.
Under the Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-II) Extension Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Link Project, a 17-km six-lane corridor is being developed at a cost of Rs 3,500 crore. This corridor will connect the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Tronica City with UER-II, aiming to ease traffic pressure on key routes and provide direct access to the Dehradun Expressway from various locations.
Delhi Chief Minister Gupta also unveiled plans for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Noida-Faridabad Connectivity Corridor, a 65-km six-lane project with an investment of Rs 7,500 crore. This corridor will enhance connectivity for multiple areas while reducing congestion at major junctions. Additionally, a project linking the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra corridor with UER-II is in the pipeline to improve traffic diversion and freight movement across Delhi-NCR.
