Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed that the government is actively addressing pollution in the national capital by initiating the construction of 400 kilometers of dust-free roads once the GRAP restrictions are lifted. These roads will be built entirely dust-free from edge to edge to eliminate dust emissions at the source.

Gupta highlighted that in addition to road construction, the Delhi Government is installing mist spray systems along road medians to counter dust particles and enhance pollution control efforts. The government has already allocated funds for 300 kilometers of the proposed roads, with the remaining 100 kilometers to be constructed using local resources.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the construction of these roads will not only enhance traffic flow but also significantly reduce dust pollution caused by deteriorating roads, a major pollution source in Delhi. All necessary formalities and tenders for road construction have been finalized, and the Public Works Department (PWD) will swiftly commence construction activities across various parts of the city once GRAP restrictions are lifted.

Gupta further mentioned that mist spray systems are being expanded to combat dust pollution effectively. These systems, strategically placed on road medians, release fine water droplets to suppress road dust, a key source of pollutants like PM10 and PM2.5. The government is prioritizing the installation of these systems in high-pollution areas and hotspots to ensure continuous dust control throughout the year.
