Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal participated in a protest against the rejection of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha. The protest highlighted dissatisfaction over the failure to pass legislation for 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state Assemblies.
During the protest, CM Gupta emphasized, “We are not flowers, we are sparks; we are the women of India; India will not tolerate this insult to women.” BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal criticized the conduct of the Opposition in Parliament for voting against the women’s reservation Bill and showing apparent happiness over its defeat.
The rejection of the Bill has sparked political tensions, with the ruling NDA leaders accusing the Opposition of obstructing a significant measure aimed at enhancing women’s political representation. The proposed legislation also included an increase in the Lok Sabha’s strength but failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority in the Lower House.
