Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Delhi University’s Arts Faculty to endorse the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, advocating for increased women’s political representation. The Act reserves one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. Gupta stressed the importance of enhancing women’s involvement in governance and decision-making processes to address societal issues effectively.
The Chief Minister highlighted Delhi government initiatives like ‘Lakhpati Bitiya’ and ‘Anmol’ as efforts towards empowering women and ensuring social security. The event emphasized women’s leadership and equal representation with messages promoting women to take the lead and contribute to a prosperous nation. Gupta praised the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as a significant move and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its enactment, linking it to the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.
She acknowledged the longstanding demand for increased political representation for women, tracing it back to 1931. Gupta emphasized the collective responsibility in ensuring the Act’s effective implementation and urged young people to actively engage in supporting the initiative. She believed that the law would redefine political representation, fostering a more balanced and progressive democracy in India.
The Chief Minister engaged with students and faculty members after the campaign, fostering open communication and dialogue. She highlighted the importance of direct interactions between public representatives and citizens for effective policymaking. Gupta encouraged participation in the movement for equal decision-making roles, aiming to strengthen democratic principles in the country.
