Following the success of “Metro Monday” in Delhi, Minister Kapil Mishra announced that the state government has intensified its work-from-home initiative. Ministers and employees, including Mishra himself, are now working remotely in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to save fuel and promote sustainability. The Delhi government has decided to enforce a two-day work-from-home policy every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as per Mishra.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also adopted the work-from-home approach, managing official tasks through the Jan Seva Kendra, while Ministers and officials conduct most meetings online. Mishra praised the public response to “Metro Monday,” where people were encouraged to use public transport over private vehicles. This initiative saw significant participation, leading to increased trips by the Metro and expanded feeder services by the Delhi Transport Corporation.
The campaign has started to impact Delhi’s roads positively, with more people actively engaging in the initiative. This shift is visibly reducing road traffic, indicating a gradual integration of sustainable practices into people’s lifestyles. The business community in Delhi has also shown support for these initiatives, with Mishra holding a meeting with major business representatives and the Delhi chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Minister Mishra highlighted that various business establishments have decided to incorporate work-from-home and carpooling practices at their workplaces. The Delhi government, following Prime Minister Modi’s appeal, continues to promote measures aimed at saving fuel, energy, and encouraging the use of public transport and shared mobility systems across the capital city.
