Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a rise in ex-gratia aid to Rs 75,000 per hectare for farmers impacted by heavy rains and waterlogging in 2025. This decision, made during a Cabinet meeting, aims to benefit around 10,000 farmers in Delhi. The agricultural land in Delhi affected by the rain totaled approximately 10,977.44 acres (4,442.41 hectares).
The previous government in 2015 had set the ex gratia assistance at Rs 20,000 per acre for crop loss due to rainfall, equivalent to about Rs 49,421 per hectare. Chief Minister Gupta highlighted the need for the increased rate of assistance to Rs 75,000 per hectare, considering the rise in agricultural costs over the past decade. The enhanced aid will be directed towards farmers whose crops suffered damage from heavy rainfall and waterlogging in their fields.
The decision to provide this increased assistance is a response to the challenges posed by excessive rainfall during August-September 2025 and the resulting disruption in the natural drainage system. The assistance will be limited to recorded landowners, excluding land owned by companies, vested in Gram Sabhas, or enclosed by permanent boundary walls. The Cabinet’s decision to offer ex gratia assistance at the full rate of Rs 75,000 per hectare is based on a detailed assessment by the Revenue Department, which revealed extensive crop damage in rain-affected areas.
This financial support not only aids farmers in coping with their losses but also assists them in preparing for the upcoming crop cycles, ensuring the continuity of agricultural activities.
