Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the implementation of the “Proactive Winter Air Quality Management Framework” well in advance of winter to combat seasonal pollution effectively. The framework, operational from November 1 to February 28 annually, aims to reduce emissions and improve air quality in the city. Measures include restrictions on vehicle refueling, parking charges, and construction activities to mitigate pollution levels.
The initiative requires vehicles to have a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate for refueling and proposes a ban on non-BS VI commercial vehicles from entering Delhi during peak pollution months. Exemptions will be granted to CNG, electric vehicles, and those involved in emergency services. Additionally, parking charges will double, and office timings may be adjusted to reduce private vehicle usage.
Strict compliance with dust-control norms at construction sites, installation of anti-smog guns, and intensified monitoring against waste burning are key components of the framework. The government emphasizes early preparation as a crucial strategy in combating winter pollution and is undertaking necessary measures in a dedicated manner.
Delhi frequently experiences poor air quality during winter months due to factors like thermal inversion, stubble burning, and calm wind conditions. The government’s proactive approach aims to address these issues and safeguard public health during the challenging winter period.
