The Delhi High Court has reserved its decision on the interim bail pleas of Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui, a defendant in the Al-Falah Trust money laundering case. Siddiqui seeks temporary release to care for his wife, who is undergoing treatment for Stage-IV cancer. The court heard arguments from both sides before reserving orders.
Represented by senior advocate Vikram Chaudhri, Siddiqui pressed for interim bail, citing his wife’s critical health condition. The Enforcement Directorate, represented by senior advocate Zoheb Hossein, is involved in the case. The bail applications are related to two separate money laundering investigations by the ED.
Siddiqui’s regular bail applications are scheduled for a hearing on July 29 and 30. Last week, the High Court transferred his interim bail pleas to Justice Saurabh Banerjee’s Bench. Siddiqui contends that his wife’s condition necessitates his presence and care, seeking a six-week interim bail for this purpose.
The ED has opposed Siddiqui’s plea, arguing against granting interim bail. Earlier, a trial court had rejected Siddiqui’s request for temporary release, stating that the medical records did not show an immediate life-threatening situation. The ED’s investigation is based on FIRs alleging irregularities in Al-Falah University’s operations.
