The Delhi High Court has been requested to intervene in the aftermath of the Malviya Nagar fire incident. An open letter to the Chief Justice highlights the need for a thorough investigation, accountability of officials, and reforms to enhance public safety in the capital. The plea emphasizes the importance of scrutinizing safety standards compliance and the enforcement of public safety laws.

Advocate Bhavishya Shakya filed the letter, expressing concerns over the tragic loss of lives and the failure of regulatory oversight in Delhi. The petition questions whether the authorities fulfilled their obligations to ensure safety standards were met. It draws attention to the need for effective legal and regulatory mechanisms to prevent such incidents.

The petition underlines the significance of upholding the right to life with dignity and safety as per Article 21 of the Constitution. It calls for criminal proceedings in cases of negligence or misconduct by officials or private individuals. Additionally, the plea raises issues related to online accommodation platforms and their responsibility in ensuring fire safety compliance.

In light of the Malviya Nagar tragedy, the petition urges a city-wide audit of lodging establishments in Delhi. It emphasizes the importance of accountability, compensation, and support for the victims and their families. The plea stresses the necessity of enforcing public safety obligations with integrity and seriousness to prevent future tragedies.
