Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena criticized the recent protest by Congress members at the AI Summit, calling it ill-conceived and harmful to India’s international reputation. The protest, which included a shirtless demonstration, led to the arrest of the national president of the Indian Youth Congress.
A Congress delegation, including Ajay Maken and Devendra Yadav, met with the L-G to discuss the police action against Youth Congress volunteers. The L-G emphasized that such actions during an important international event were disrespectful to the nation hosting the summit.
The L-G clarified that the AI Summit was a national event, not affiliated with any individual or political party. He condemned the protesters’ behavior and stressed the significance of maintaining decorum at such gatherings. The Delhi Congress chief accused the police of unjustly targeting Congress workers in connection with the protest incident.
Yadav criticized the police for their handling of the situation, stating that the arrests and harassment of Congress workers were unwarranted. He denounced the police actions as illegal and condemned the treatment of party members during the investigation process.
