Delhi-NCR experienced a gradual increase in temperatures with bright sunshine on Saturday, while the air quality in the region remained categorized as ‘poor’. The national Capital saw daytime temperatures rising steadily under clear and sunny skies. On Friday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature 1.5 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average, signaling a shift in weather patterns, as per data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD forecasts similar conditions for Saturday, with wind speeds expected to range between 15 and 25 kilometers per hour during the day. The maximum temperature is anticipated to be between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature ranging from 9 to 11 degrees Celsius. Haze in the early morning hours is likely to persist but is expected to dissipate gradually as the day progresses, leading to sunny weather prevailing once again.
Despite the pleasant daytime conditions, concerns over air quality persisted across Delhi. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 260, falling into the ‘poor’ category. Various areas in Delhi reported deteriorating air quality levels, with Burari at 202 AQI, Anand Vihar at 260, Chandni Chowk at 232, DTU at 204, Dwarka Sector-8 at 243, ITO at 223, and Okhla Phase-2 at 228.
In a bid to revolutionize urban mobility in Delhi, the Delhi government has formed a task force to draft a Bill proposing the establishment of a Delhi Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (DUMTA) and a dedicated Delhi Urban Transport Fund (DUTF). The proposed legislation aims to streamline and integrate Delhi’s transport network under a unified planning and governance framework, as per a statement from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s office. This initiative is viewed as a significant stride towards realizing a modern, efficient, people-centric, and environmentally sustainable transport system for the national Capital.
