The Delhi Police have apprehended the suspect involved in the murder and sexual assault of a 22-year-old daughter of an IRS officer in Amar Colony, Delhi. The breakthrough in the case came through digital evidence including a stolen phone, hotel Wi-Fi usage, and Instagram conversations, leading to the identification of the accused, Rahul Meena, who had absconded post the incident.
Multiple police teams were deployed, and extensive CCTV footage was scrutinized in the investigation. It was discovered that the accused had used a stolen phone to avoid detection and had checked into a hotel in Dwarka, where he accessed the internet through the establishment’s Wi-Fi. Rahul stayed in contact with a relative in Gurugram via Instagram during this period.
Through the analysis of digital records and surveillance techniques, the police were able to trace Rahul’s location. It was revealed that he raped the victim before strangling her with a phone charger and fleeing with stolen money. The crime took place at the bureaucrat’s residence in Kailash Hills, Delhi, with the victim being found under suspicious circumstances by her family.
The accused, familiar with the family’s routine, exploited this knowledge to commit the crime. Rahul Meena, who had been in Alwar before coming to Delhi, was arrested from a hotel in Dwarka. He faces charges of rape, murder, and robbery, with the investigation ongoing.
