Delhi Police’s South District personnel have dismantled an alleged international mobile phone trafficking ring connected to Bangladesh. Two key receivers from West Bengal were apprehended, and 163 stolen, snatched, and robbed mobile phones were recovered in a significant interstate operation. The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of South District took action following specific intelligence received on May 19 about individuals transporting stolen mobile phones from Delhi-NCR to Bangladesh via West Bengal.
During a raid in Okhla Vihar, the police detained Abdul Samim, 23, and Ahidujjaman, 35, both residents of West Bengal’s Malda district. Five stolen mobile phones related to separate Delhi e-FIRs were found in their possession. The interrogation of the accused unveiled that a substantial consignment of stolen phones had been recently dispatched to West Bengal through courier channels.
Based on the information provided by the accused and technical insights, the police collaborated with officials and intercepted suspicious consignments at a warehouse in Gurugram. This led to the recovery of an additional 158 stolen mobile phones. A total of 163 mobile phones, along with courier consignments and incriminating evidence, were seized during the operation.
The investigation exposed an organized interstate and international network involved in procuring stolen and snatched mobile phones from criminals in Delhi-NCR. These phones were then routed to West Bengal through courier services and allegedly trafficked into Bangladesh for sale in grey markets. Authorities are conducting further investigations to trace the syndicate’s connections across Delhi-NCR, West Bengal, and Bangladesh.
