In a significant development, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has apprehended Gulab Singh, a proclaimed offender, in connection with a 12-year-old murder case involving Md. Kayam. The accused, known as Gulab Singh alias Vicky, aged 42 and residing in Delhi’s Nand Nagri area, had been evading arrest despite living in the vicinity all along.
Gulab Singh faced charges in a murder case filed at Nand Nagri police station in April 2014. While his brothers and others were arrested earlier, he managed to escape and avoid capture despite extensive search efforts and warrant executions. Consequently, he was declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
Following his continuous evasion, Gulab Singh was declared a proclaimed offender as he failed to appear in court, constantly changing hideouts to evade arrest. After 12 years, the breakthrough in his arrest came when specific information about his movements was received by Head Constable Harjeet.
Acting promptly on the tip-off, a specialized team led by Inspector Prakash Chand, with SI Sumit Kumar, HC Pawan, and HC Harjeet, and under the supervision of ACP Rajkumar from Western Range-I, was formed by DCP, Crime Branch, Harsh Indora to capture the accused. Through technical surveillance and local intelligence, the team successfully apprehended Gulab Singh after strategic deployment and sustained efforts.
During interrogation, Gulab Singh confessed to the murder of Md. Kayam, revealing that he had been on the run with his wife, hiding in various locations in and around the national capital to avoid arrest and legal proceedings. Gulab Singh, a school dropout, used to operate a garment shop in Natthupura, Burari area of North Delhi.
