Delhi Police have pinpointed 30 individuals linked to the violence that occurred during a municipal corporation’s demolition activity near the Faiz-e-Ilahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate area. The identification process relied on CCTV footage, police body cameras, and viral videos from the vicinity.
Authorities plan to summon Samajwadi Party MP Mohibbullah Nadvi for questioning as he was reportedly present at the scene before the outbreak of violence. Despite warnings to stay away, the MP remained in the vicinity.
In connection with the stone-pelting incident during the mosque’s demolition, Delhi Police have arrested five individuals so far. Multiple police teams have been mobilized, conducting raids to apprehend the identified suspects.
The FIR, obtained by authorities, details the events from the police barricading of encroached land to locals chanting provocative slogans and eventually pelting stones at the officers. The unrest began around 12:40 a.m. when a group gathered, obstructing police efforts.
Videos circulating on social media captured the stone pelting and damage to barricades, sparking outrage among some netizens over the direct assault on law enforcement. The FIR mentions the protesters’ aggression, including snatching and breaking a loudhailer, attacking officers, and damaging public property.
Following the arrival of additional forces, the violent protesters were pushed back, leading to the demolition of illegal structures near the mosque. The FIR includes charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
