Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed plans for a Rs 8,300 crore project named ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ to combat air pollution. The initiative, supported by the World Bank and other multilateral institutions, aims to expedite Delhi’s air pollution control strategies and align with the National Clean Air Programme and ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision. A workshop scheduled for July 10 will finalize program arrangements and enhance collaboration among stakeholders.
The project, spanning from September 2026 to August 2033, will cover all Delhi districts. The World Bank will fund 65% of the project, with the remaining 35% covered by the Delhi Government. The endeavor will target sectors like transport, road dust, waste management, industry, and water pollution, focusing on long-term benefits beyond pollution control.
CM Rekha Gupta outlined two main project pillars: enhancing air quality management and reducing emissions from major pollution sources. The initiative includes establishing a Project Management Unit, modernizing air quality monitoring, and promoting pollution control through collaboration with neighboring states. The project also aims to phase out older vehicles, promote electric vehicles, and strengthen public transport.
The project will involve various Delhi Government departments and agencies, including the Environment Department, DPCC, Transport Department, PWD, MCD, DJB, and others. Key partners will include the Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India, and the World Bank.
