The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in parts of Delhi on Tuesday, providing relief from the hot and humid weather. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for Delhi, with rainfall expected in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh from July 7 to July 11, with more significant showers anticipated on July 7 and July 9.
Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to range between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may fall between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Despite the IMD’s prediction of heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR on Monday, the city received only light drizzles due to cloudy skies, falling short of expectations.
The IMD anticipates no significant change in Delhi’s maximum temperature over the next week, with the minimum temperature remaining stable for two days before decreasing by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius over the following three days. High humidity levels have been a concern, with the heat index reaching 49.6 degrees Celsius in some areas, leading to uncomfortable outdoor conditions.
Monday, despite being one of the hottest July days in the last two years, saw a maximum temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius in Delhi. The highest July temperature on record was 38.8 degrees Celsius on July 11, 2024. Additionally, recent IMD data revealed a 68% rainfall deficit in Delhi, with only 6.6 mm of rainfall recorded against the normal 21 mm from July 1 to July 6.
