Delhi’s NDMC Smart City is gearing up to introduce its first ‘Night Bazaar’ in Connaught Place parking lots by the end of March, inspired by global nightlife trends. The market will offer a vibrant flea market experience akin to popular markets in Thailand and Canada, open until 1 a.m.
During the annual Budget presentation, NDMC Chairperson Keshav Chandra and Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal reaffirmed the council’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure in line with Vision@2047. The Night Bazaar aims to elevate Delhi’s urban spaces, providing a safe and leisurely shopping experience in the central business district late into the night.
Drawing inspiration from renowned night markets worldwide, such as those in Malaysia, Morocco, Tanzania, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, the NDMC seeks to attract tourists and enhance Delhi’s global appeal. The concept of a Night Bazaar has been in discussion for over a decade, with previous attempts at locations like Dilli Haat and Nehru Place.
The Night Bazaar will be set up in the NDMC’s parking lots at Connaught Place, avoiding permanent structures and opting for tents and canopies. By repurposing the parking lots, the council aims to create a unique shopping experience and boost revenue through increased footfall and local business promotion. The initiative aligns with recent changes allowing night shifts in commercial establishments, further supporting the Night Bazaar’s success.
