A delivery rider named Rishabh Kumar was brutally assaulted at a Zepto store in New Ashok Nagar, Delhi. The incident, captured on CCTV, occurred after Rishabh sprayed perfume on himself in the store. Subsequently, he was humiliated by being forced to squat like a chicken and then physically attacked.
The New Ashok Nagar Police Station has filed a complaint and launched an investigation into the matter. Authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage to determine the appropriate course of action. The victim is currently undergoing a medical examination, and legal proceedings are being initiated as per the law.
This incident follows a recent case where another Zepto delivery executive was assaulted by two individuals on scooters. The safety of gig workers has become a growing concern, with incidents of violence against them on the rise. In response, gig workers have been advocating for better working conditions and pay through protests.
Amidst these incidents, the Labour Ministry has proposed a 90-day annual work threshold for gig and platform workers to access social security benefits. This move, outlined in the Social Security Code, 2020, aims to enhance social protection for workers in the gig economy.
