The phased demolition of Ahmedabad’s aging Subhash Bridge achieved a significant milestone as five additional spans, including sections over the Sabarmati river and on the Shahibaug side, were safely dismantled. The operation, overseen by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), involved the successful removal of a total of five spans. The contractor executed the demolition under expert supervision, adhering strictly to safety standards and protocols.
Debris removal is currently underway, with plans for the next phase of demolition scheduled to proceed as planned. Earlier this week, three riverbed spans were also dismantled as part of the bridge’s gradual removal process. Subhash Bridge, constructed in 1973 to link the western and eastern parts of Ahmedabad over the Sabarmati River, was closed to traffic last year due to structural issues. Experts from prestigious institutes confirmed the bridge’s irreparable deterioration, leading to the decision for complete demolition and reconstruction.
The AMC emphasized that the demolition process was meticulously monitored on-site, with full compliance with safety regulations to ensure a systematic and secure operation. The entire area around the bridge was cordoned off during the demolition, with strict safety measures in place to prevent any incidents. Public access to the vicinity was restricted throughout the demolition process to guarantee safety.
