Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi visited flood-affected industrial zones in Surat to evaluate the impact of heavy rainfall on manufacturing units and textile businesses. He directed officials to expedite drainage, restore essential services, and address concerns of industrialists. Sanghavi surveyed Maruti Industrial Estate in Pandesara and the Millennium Textile Market near Kamela Darwaja, both of which faced inundation due to heavy rain and subsequent waterlogging.
During the inspection, Sanghavi interacted with industrialists and traders to gauge the damage to factories, machinery, and goods. He also sought to understand the disruptions in production and business activities caused by the flooding. The Deputy Chief Minister instructed relevant departments to promptly clear accumulated water, restore basic infrastructure and utilities, and resolve issues raised by affected industrial units without delay.
Expressing solidarity with affected industrialists, Sanghavi assured that the state government is taking necessary measures to expedite the return to normalcy for industrial activities. His visit coincided with intensified relief and damage assessment efforts by the district administration in Surat following the heavy rains. Surat District Collector Tejas Parmar mobilized 227 officers and employees into 41 teams for door-to-door surveys in flood-affected areas to evaluate damage and facilitate government assistance distribution.
The relief efforts included distributing Rs 35.21 lakh to 1,185 affected residents, comprising cash doles and household relief. This assistance involved Rs 11 lakh in cash doles for 701 beneficiaries and Rs 24.20 lakh in household aid for 484 individuals, with additional payments scheduled upon completion of surveys. The Deputy Chief Minister’s focus on the industrial sector, a significant part of Surat’s economy, highlighted the challenges faced due to waterlogging in low-lying regions. Restoration work has commenced alongside relief operations in residential areas and damage assessments citywide.
Accompanying Sanghavi during the visit were MLA Manu Patel, Surat Mayor Maya Mavani, District Collector Tejas Parmar, Police Commissioner (In-charge) Wabang Jamir, officials from the Surat Municipal Corporation, public representatives, and industrialists.
