The Diamond Harbour Police in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district has lodged an FIR against Mitun Kumar Dey, a former influential officer closely linked to Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress general secretary. The complaint was filed by Dr. Tamal Kumar Haldar, a Trinamool Congress councillor from Diamond Harbour Municipality, alleging severe torture by Dey, the ex-sub-divisional police officer, including stripping, beating, and electric shock.
Following the complaint, Dey, who was later promoted to Additional Superintendent of Diamond Harbour Police District, will be questioned by investigators. This isn’t the first time Dey has faced controversy; previously, a former Trinamool Congress legislator filed a complaint against him and Abhishek Banerjee for alleged autocratic behavior within the party.
Giasuddin Molla, the former legislator, accused Dey of physically and mentally abusing party workers who opposed Banerjee’s leadership style. Molla claimed that despite informing Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, no action was taken, suggesting that Dey’s actions were carried out under Banerjee’s directives.
