Government-backed e-commerce platform DigiHaat has broadened its mobility services to 55 cities in India by partnering with driver-owned cooperatives Bharat Taxi and Namma Yatri. The move aims to promote a cooperative and citizen-centric approach in the ride-hailing sector. ‘DigiHaat Rides’ service, initially available in Delhi NCR and Bengaluru, now includes cities like Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, and others, including tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
The platform’s mobility model stands out from traditional ride-hailing services as it emphasizes driver ownership and lower commissions. Drivers have more control over their earnings and decision-making on the platform, while customers benefit from transparent pricing and community-based accountability. DigiHaat aligns its vision with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative, focusing on enhancing “Ease of Living” and promoting inclusive digital participation nationwide.
CEO of Nirmit Bharat, Rahul Vij, highlighted the company’s commitment to building digital infrastructure that prioritizes citizens over shareholder interests. DigiHaat aims to create a digital ecosystem where every driver retains their earnings and users have authentic choices. The expanded rides service will integrate with existing offerings like metro ticketing, food delivery, and shopping, aiming to establish a unified digital platform for daily needs.
