The Tamil Nadu Assembly’s trust vote proceedings on Wednesday were marked by high political tension as the DMK, led by Udhayanidhi Stalin, staged a walkout. Stalin, the Leader of Opposition, criticized Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, questioning the legitimacy of the TVK-led government’s majority. Alleging that the ruling alliance lacked the necessary 118 members for a majority in the 234-member Assembly, Stalin accused Vijay of contesting from two constituencies due to a lack of confidence in winning.
The DMK leader highlighted that a court order had prevented the Tirupattur MLA from participating in the trust vote, reducing the ruling side’s effective strength to 106 members. Stalin claimed that the government survived only due to support from alliance parties. He also criticized the new government for focusing on image-building over governance, urging it to prioritize real governance instead of Instagram reels.
Stalin further criticized Chief Minister Vijay for meeting AIADMK rebel leaders before the trust vote, questioning whether it signified a change in politics or merely an exchange. He expressed concerns over the government’s governance standards and whether it lived up to its promises. Subsequently, DMK legislators decided to walk out during the trust vote, while discussions on the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination by the National Testing Agency were also prominent in the debate.
