Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches in India saw a significant 24.1% year-on-year increase to 3,88,144 units in June, as per data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This growth trend extended to two-wheelers and three-wheelers, with robust double-digit sales growth recorded. The passenger vehicle segment, including utility vehicles, witnessed a healthy demand, with sales rising across various categories.
The utility vehicle (UV) segment notably contributed to the growth, with domestic sales up by 19.9% year-on-year to 2,17,228 units. Passenger car sales also saw a notable increase of 15.7% to 98,610 units, while van sales grew by 9.5% to 10,230 units. The two-wheeler segment maintained its strong momentum, with dispatches surging by 18.6% to 18,51,400 units in June from 15,61,283 units a year earlier.
Scooters emerged as the fastest-growing category among two-wheelers, with domestic sales soaring by 39.1% to 7,44,823 units. Motorcycle sales rose by 6.4% to 10,56,422 units, and moped sales showed a significant increase of 50.4% to 50,155 units. Three-wheeler dispatches to dealers also climbed by 26.1% year-on-year to 77,951 units, compared to 61,828 units in June last year.
Passenger carrier sales within the three-wheeler segment rose by 25% to 64,181 units, while goods carrier sales increased by 29.4% to 11,828 units. Notably, electric three-wheelers posted healthy growth, with e-rickshaw sales rising by 52.4% to 1,590 units. The latest data reflects the sustained demand in the domestic market following a record-breaking performance in May across various vehicle categories.
Vehicle exports also showed a positive trend in June, with an overall 34% year-on-year increase to 6,73,105 units. Two-wheeler exports led the growth, rising by 40.2% to 5,43,684 units, while three-wheeler exports climbed by 39.7% to 51,950 units. Passenger vehicle exports remained relatively stable at 76,601 units during the same period.
