DRDO Chairman and Secretary, Department of Defence (R&D), Samir V. Kamat, revealed Advanced Armoured Platforms (Tracked and Wheeled) developed by the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment. These platforms, designed to meet the Indian Army’s rigorous specifications, are equipped for operations in deserts and high-altitude regions, ensuring stable firing capabilities. Over the next two years, advanced features like AI will be integrated before user trials commence.
The platforms, tailored to fulfill the evolving operational needs of the defence forces, feature indigenously crafted 30 mm Crewless Turrets with enhanced mobility, firepower, and protection attributes. Integrated with robust engines and automatic transmissions, these platforms boast high power-to-weight ratios, increased speed, and the ability to navigate gradients and obstacles efficiently. They offer STANAG level 4 and 5 protection, modular blast and ballistic protection, and amphibious capabilities with improved water obstacle crossing facilitated by hydro jets.
Moreover, the 30 mm crewless turret, in conjunction with the 7.62 mm PKT gun, can launch Anti-Tank Guided Missiles and be adapted for various roles. With 65% indigenous content, there are plans to elevate this figure to 90%. The manufacturing of these platforms has been a collaborative effort involving TATA Advanced Systems Limited, Bharat Forge Limited, and numerous MSMEs, reinforcing the defense ecosystem.
