Eid-ul-Adha prayers in Jammu and Kashmir ended peacefully with devotees gathering at various Eidgahs across the region. Notable congregations took place at the Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar and in district headquarters like Ganderbal, Bandipora, and others. In Jammu, prayers were held at mosques and Eidgah grounds, including Residency Road and Bhatindi.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with former CMs Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, participated in Eid prayers at Hazratbal shrine. Devotees, including children, attended prayers and exchanged greetings at mosques and shrines. Security forces ensured safety and order, with special traffic arrangements for worshippers.
Following prayers, Muslims observed the tradition of animal sacrifices as part of Eid-ul-Adha, signifying the end of the Hajj pilgrimage. However, Eid prayers were not permitted at the historic Eidgah grounds in Srinagar’s old city, drawing criticism from Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Mirwaiz Umar expressed disappointment over the restrictions, emphasizing the importance of preserving religious traditions and identities in Kashmir.
