At least eight individuals lost their lives when a passenger bus fell off the road in Nepal’s central Kavrepalanchok district. The incident occurred in the Buchchakot area along the B P Highway. Gopal Kumar Adhikari, Chief District Officer of Kavrepalanchok, confirmed the fatalities and mentioned that 16 injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.
Adhikari stated that five of the injured passengers are in critical condition. Following the accident, local authorities and residents collaborated to rescue the injured individuals and transfer them to the hospital. The bus was en route from Banepa to the Sungure area when it veered off the road and plunged into a gorge at Buchchakot in Namobuddha Municipality.
The cause of the tragic accident remains unknown as investigations are ongoing. Nepal has seen a surge in road accidents in recent years, paralleling the increase in the number of vehicles on the roads. Official data indicates a rise in road accidents and fatalities, with a significant economic impact attributed to road safety issues.
