The Election Commission of India has officially announced the by-election for Gujarat’s 145-Manjalpur Assembly constituency following the passing of BJP MLA Yogesh Patel. The seat became vacant on June 2 due to Patel’s demise. Voters in Manjalpur have been called upon to elect a new representative by August 4, 2026, as per the notification issued under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The notification sets July 13 as the deadline for filing nomination papers, with scrutiny scheduled for July 14 and the withdrawal of nominations allowed until July 16. If necessary, polling will be conducted on July 30 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., aiming to complete the election process by August 4. The by-election timetable was formalized by Election Commission Secretary Binod Kumar after the poll schedule announcement earlier this month.
Apart from Manjalpur, two other Assembly by-elections are also being held in Bankipur, Bihar, and Datia, Madhya Pradesh, to fill vacant seats in accordance with the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The Manjalpur constituency, previously represented by veteran BJP leader Patel, is anticipated to witness a competitive race as political parties gear up to nominate candidates before the deadline.
