The Election Commission of India issued show-cause notices to 778 micro-observers in West Bengal tasked with overseeing the hearing session on draft voters’ list claims and objections. These micro-observers, appointed from central government employees and public sector workers in the state, were absent from a training session and expressed inability to participate. Failure to respond to the notices within 48 hours may lead to disciplinary actions, including suspension.

The micro-observers, mainly from Group-B and some from Group-A categories, were appointed from employees currently stationed in West Bengal. Initially accused of being from other states, it was clarified that all micro-observers are based in the state. A total of 4,600 micro-observers have been appointed to supervise the hearing sessions, with specified roles assigned by the Commission.
