The Election Commission of India swiftly published index cards and statistical reports for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections and bye-elections within 72 hours of the results announcement. Covering 830 Assembly constituencies where the election process ended on May 6, the data release marks a significant achievement. Digital enhancements have enabled faster compilation and publication of this crucial electoral information.
This rapid data dissemination is part of the Election Commission’s 30+ initiatives implemented over the past year. The ECINET platform’s introduction has revolutionized the process, eliminating the need for manual compilation that previously took weeks or even months. The index cards now provide detailed information on candidates, electors, votes cast, and party performances, accessible through the ECINET App and the official ECI website.
In a groundbreaking move, the Election Commission released 14 statistical reports alongside the index cards, all available to the public within three days of the election results. These reports offer a comprehensive breakdown of various factors, such as voter turnout by assembly constituency, gender-specific participation rates, and detailed constituency-wise results. Described as a proactive step towards transparency, these reports cater to stakeholders, researchers, and the general public.
The Election Commission emphasized that while the reports are based on secondary data, the primary data remains securely maintained in the statutory forms by Returning Officers, serving as the final reference point. Furthermore, a re-poll has been scheduled for the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal on May 21, following complaints during the second and final phase of polling on April 29. The results of the re-poll are set to be announced on May 24.
