The Election Commission of India is gearing up for conducting by-elections in five vacant Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. These vacancies arose due to resignations following the recent State Legislative Assembly elections. The Tamilaga Munnetra Congress (TMC), led by Joseph Vijay, became the largest party after the 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly election but needed support to form a government.
Joseph Vijay, the leader of TMC, assumed office as the Chief Minister after securing support from various parties. Vacancies in the Assembly occurred as Vijay had to vacate one constituency after winning in two seats. Additionally, four AIADMK legislators resigned and joined the ruling party, leading to further vacancies in the Assembly.
The Election Commission has officially declared the constituencies vacant and is now preparing for the upcoming by-elections. District election officers and collectors have been instructed to make necessary arrangements by June 22. The Commission has appointed Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers, marking the beginning of the election process.
