The Election Commission has taken action in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district by removing the Inspector In-Charge of Beldanga police station. This decision follows the removal of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Beldanga on April 11. Ashutosh Rai, formerly an Inspector of Howrah Police Commissionerate, will now assume the role of IC at Beldanga police station.
Animesh Dey, who held the position of Beldanga IC for a significant period, has been replaced as part of preparations for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The Commission has directed Ashutosh Rai to assume his new responsibilities by Tuesday night. In a separate move on April 11, the Commission implemented changes within Kolkata Police and the West Bengal Police.
The reshuffling of bureaucrats and IPS officers in West Bengal has been ongoing since the announcement of the upcoming Assembly elections. Notably, individuals removed from their positions are barred from election-related duties in the state for the time being. The upcoming elections in West Bengal will be conducted in two phases, with Murshidabad district participating in the initial phase.
