The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the Datia Assembly by-election. The bypoll will be notified on July 6, with nominations accepted until July 13. Scrutiny of nominations will occur on July 14, and the last date for withdrawal is July 16.
Polling is scheduled for July 30, with vote counting on August 3, concluding the election process by August 4. The Model Code of Conduct is now in effect in the constituency, and voting will use Electronic Voting Machines and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail units.
The by-election follows the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti due to a fraud conviction. Bharti was found guilty in a 1998 fixed deposit fraud case and sentenced to three years in prison with a Rs 1 lakh fine. His disqualification led to the vacancy in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.
The upcoming bypoll will decide Bharti’s successor in the Datia Assembly constituency. Political parties are expected to ramp up their campaigns in the lead-up to the election.
