The Election Commission of India is set to address the “logical discrepancy” cases in the draft voters’ list in West Bengal. These cases, which account for 24% of voters enlisted through “progeny mapping,” involve irregular family-tree data. The total number of voters enlisted through “progeny mapping” in the state is 3.83 crore, with 91.46 lakh falling under the “logical discrepancy” category.
The draft list includes voters categorized under “self mapping” and “progeny mapping.” While “self mapping” refers to voters listed in 2002, “progeny mapping” includes those with parents listed in the same year. Currently, over 32 lakh “unmapped” voters, not fitting into these categories, are undergoing the hearing process. Initially, 1.36 crore “logical discrepancy” cases were identified, but this number has reduced to 91.46 lakhs after a thorough evaluation.
Trinamool Congress has urged the Election Commission to formally release details instead of leaking information on “logical discrepancy” cases to the media. The draft voters’ list was released on December 16, with the final list scheduled for publication on February 4. Subsequently, the Commission will announce the polling dates for the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.
