Seventh seed Elina Svitolina claimed her third Italian Open title by defeating third seed Coco Gauff in a challenging women’s singles final. The match lasted nearly three hours, with Svitolina emerging victorious with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2. Svitolina’s path to the final included wins over Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek in earlier rounds.
In the first set, Svitolina faced a 4-2 deficit against Gauff but managed to turn the tide by breaking back in the eighth game. Despite Gauff’s strong performance, Svitolina held her nerve, saving crucial break points to secure the set 6-4. The second set was equally intense, with Gauff forcing a tiebreak and eventually winning it 7-3 to level the match.
The deciding set saw Svitolina take control by breaking Gauff’s serve in the fifth and seventh games. Despite facing break points while serving for the championship, Svitolina remained composed and closed out the match with a backhand volley. This victory marked Svitolina’s 20th WTA singles title and her third triumph at the Italian Open.
In the men’s draw, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the final after defeating Daniil Medvedev in a rain-suspended semifinal. Sinner will face Casper Ruud in the upcoming final match on Sunday.
