Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has uncovered a Pakistan-based operator managing 31 accounts to distribute AI-generated war videos related to the ongoing conflict in Iran. The head of product at X, Nikita Bier, revealed that these accounts were compromised and renamed to “Iran War Monitor” or similar on February 27. Bier noted that not only were these accounts impersonating Iran-related monitors but also posing as “IDF Girl” accounts, all operated from Pakistan.

In response to concerns raised on X, Bier clarified that most cases involved individuals seeking to exploit monetization opportunities. However, X recently took action against “IDF Girl” accounts originating from Pakistan. To address the issue, X has implemented stricter regulations. Bier emphasized that users sharing AI-generated conflict videos without disclosing their AI origin will face a 90-day suspension from Creator Revenue Sharing. The focus is on ensuring that authentic information is accessible to people during times of conflict.

Amid the conflict in West Asia, triggered by US-Israel strikes on Iran, X’s decision reflects the need for reliable information dissemination. The conflict began with strikes targeting Iran’s military infrastructure, resulting in casualties among senior Iranian leaders. Iran retaliated with drone and missile attacks on US assets and regional targets. X’s actions aim to combat misinformation during critical events and uphold trust in the platform.
